I don’t about this on, watching the series you understand why everyone felt they way they did and did what they did.

That was because Deb knows what Dan is capable for, especially after Nathan and Haley’s second wedding when he strangled Deb in the hospital.

Because Dan was at the end of his rope. Karen was in the hospital tittering on life. Lucas had changed and was willing to kill him. Also Lucas and Abby knew the truth about what he did. And he spend months being haunted about killing Keith (especially after learning the truth of who really tried to kill him).Dan was at the end of his rope.
